Good song by the way..

Smoke/Flames Script using AS 3.0. It uses a mixture of .png's as well as Flash's (CS) blending modes to create a realistic fire effect similarly found in popular FX programs like Particle Illusion. All this creates flames that not only look real and respond to mouse movements, but is also completely random in form.

I used different brush effect within PS to create .png's to import to Flash.

The script is very adaptable and greatly commented. For the adventurous, one could create other fun and realistic elements from this script.

Enjoy! ~kb

On Scene 1 add an actions layer and add the following meat!

F9 >AS 3.0

// an array in which to store our particles
var particles:Array = new Array();

// add a blur filter to our stage
filters = [new BlurFilter(0,0,0)];

// call frameLoop every frame
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, frameLoop);

function frameLoop(e:Event)
{
var particle:Particle;

// loop through the array of particles and update each one
for(var i : int = 0; i < particle =" new" yvel =" 0;" drag =" 1;" gravity =" randRange(-0.5,-0.4);" scalex =" particle.clip.scaleY" shrink =" +1;" fade =" 0.015;" alpha =" randRange(0.4,0.6);">40)
{
particle = particles.shift();
particle.destroy();

}

}

// returns a random value between min and max
function randRange(min:Number, max:Number)
{
return Math.random()*(max-min)+min;
}

Then set up your movieClips imported by PS png's

Then on set a scene up for the smoke/spark/flame movieClips added on separate layers, then add an actions layer and add the following code.

sparks.x *= Math.random()+0,-5;
smoke.x = smoke.y = Math.random()*-8,+8;
flame.x = flame.y = Math.random()*-4,+4;

smoke.scaleX = smoke.scaleY = Math.random()+0.2, +0.1;
flame.scaleX = flame.scaleY = Math.random()+0.6, +0.65;
sparks.scaleX = sparks.scaleY = Math.random()-0.001, +0.001;

sparks.rotation *= Math.random()+0,+5;
flame.rotation *= Math.random()+0,+5;
smoke.rotation *= Math.random()+0,+90;

That's it!! I used one of my favorite singers Sade.

Step 2

Create a new flash document. Press Ctrl+J key on the keyboard (Document Properties) and set the dimensions of your document as the dimensions of photo. Select any color as background color. Set your Flash movie's frame rate to 10 and click ok.

Step 3

Call the current layer photo. Double-click on its default name (Layer 1) to change it. Press Enter once you have typed in the new name!

Step 4

Choose now File > Import > Import to stage (Ctrl+R) and import any photo into a flash stage.

Step 5

While the photo is still selected, go to the Align Panel (Ctrl+K) and do the following:

1. Make sure that the Align/Distribute to Stage button is turned on,
2. Click on the Align horizontal center button and
3. Click the Align vertical center button.

Step 6

Click now on frame 100 of layer photo and click F5 key.

Step 7

Create a new layer above the layer photo and name it mask text.

Step 8

Select mask text layer, take the Text Tool (T), select a big, bold font (I chose Impact). Put the font’s size at something like 300. Then, write some text on the flash stage and place it on the position like it is shown on the picture below!

Step 9

While the text is still selected, hit F8 key (Convert to Symbol) to convert it into a Movie Clip Symbol.

Step 10

Click now on frame 55 and 100 and hit F6 key. After dealing with the public for over 20 years, I swear most people think it really is that simple. But really good landscape photography is much more challenging. Anyone can recognize the potential of a good subject, but turning that potential into a memorable image is another story.

The task is even greater if it is a popular location. When you photograph a place that is photographed a thousand times a day, you have to find a way to create something different from the everyday snapshot.

Here are just a few tips for capturing the character of a landscape.

Tip#1. You Don't Have To Fit Everything In. Some panoramic views are so huge that the only way to fit everything into your photo is to use a very wide-angle lens. The trouble is, this reduces everything in size, so that the grandeur of your subject is diminished. It can be more effective to concentrate your composition around one feature of the landscape; a feature other people will recognize. With this approach, you can use a larger lens to add size and prominence to the the subject. You may also capture details that could be lost with a wide-angle lens.

Tip #2. Look For A New Angle.
Why is it that so many photos of the great landmarks look the same? Simply because everybody photographs them from the same lookouts. It is easy to get a good shot from a major lookout; in fact, that is probably why the lookout was built in the first place. The trouble is, it is almost impossible to get a unique shot if your photo is taken from the same angle as all the others.

If possible, search beyond the established lookouts to see if there is a more interesting angle to take your photo. This may take a little more effort, and you may have to do some bushwalking to find the best spot. I don't suggest risking your neck or trespassing, but in most cases there are alternatives to the established lookouts.

Tip #3. Use The Surroundings To Your Advantage. Anyone can take a snaphsot of a mountain range. But what about a mountain range framed through the branches of a tree in the foreground, or with a river winding away into the distance, drawing with it the eye of the viewer?

Every landscape can be photographed from a number of angles; the most obvious one is not always the best. By scouting around and looking for interesting foregrounds, you can add real character to your image and create something truly unique.

Always try to remember that you are not the first person to photograph this subject. To produce a memorable photo, you need to put in some effort to create something a little different.

Tip #4. Consider The Conditions. Capturing your subject in the best light can be a real balancing act. First you need to consider the time of day. Usually the ideal light is early in the morning and late in the afternoon, when the light is softer and more colourful. The trouble is, any photographer with experience already knows that. So how do you take your photo to the next level?

Keep a constant eye on the weather. You may be able to see something special, like a storm front, a good cloud formation, or even a good chance of a rainbow, starting to develop. If you choose your moment just right, you can be on location in time for something really special.

This is a measure of the commitment of a landscape photographer. The more effort you put in, the greater the rewards. You will spend a lot of time waiting for the right moment, but once you get that perfect image, you will see it was not time wasted. You will know you have done a good job when people start to say "I have been there - but my photos are nowhere near as good as yours!"

Andrew Goodall's top selling ebook "Photography In Plain English" is a great place to start learning the art and skills of nature photography. Malinich/Ohio State University Extension, Lorain County
Wednesday April 01, 2009, 12:44 PM

When planting a fruit tree, make the planting hole two to three times the size of the roots. For best results, add organic matter and high-phosphorus fertilizer to the backfill.

Q: What is the right way to plant a fruit tree?

A: The next few weeks are the prime time for putting in a new fruit tree. The weather is still cold, so the tops will grow slowly while the roots quickly tap into their new home. Most fruit tree transplants come bare root; there is no soil but the roots usually are wrapped in damp paper or peat moss. Prune off any broken roots. The roots can be soaked in water while the hole is dug.

The tree usually will need to be planted to the same depth it grew in the nursery (one can see the old soil line on the stem). Most transplants also will be grafted. The graft union resembles a knot, or knob, in the stem just above the soil line. The finished planting hole should be bowl-shaped, with the edges getting gradually shallower.

Measure the length of the roots. Dig the hole no deeper than the roots. It is tempting to dig a deep hole, but doing so could allow the tree to sink into the planting hole and end up being planted too deep. Make the hole two to three times wider than the spread of the roots on the transplant. Pile the soil next to the hole and add a bucket of compost or other organic matter to this pile. If planting in a yard, the sod can be chopped up and put in the pile. Also, add a handful of a high-phosphorus fertilizer, such as bone meal, to the backfill.

Have someone hold the tree in place. Do not bend the roots to fit the hole; dig the hole larger if needed. Gradually add the backfill, working it around and under the roots. If there is sod in the backfill, try to put it in the bottom of the hole so it doesn't sprout. Lightly firm the soil around the roots and leave a slight depression around the center to catch water. Make sure the graft union remains above the soil line. The finished planting will have a slight mound, but this will settle over time. A well-planted tree does not usually need to be staked. Plan on giving the tree a large bucket of water each week, especially during summer.

ARBOR DAY SPECIAL AT KALEB DESIGNS!!!!!

This Arbor Day when you start a website package or get your pre-existing website ranked and optimized in the major search engines. Kaleb Designs will give you a FREE FRUIT TREE!
